February 2021 - Lockdown Milestone - 10,000 meals served

We've had a lovely write-up in the Shropshire Star and Bridgnorth Journal highlighting our 10,000th lockdown meal served!

It's a real team effort. Del, Rob, Russ & James in the kitchen have managed to keep the meals flowing with Ben, Linda & Dave getting them to our takeaway and delivery customers.

Let's hope we're nearly at the end of lockdown 3 with a review due in a couple of weeks. We're pleased we've been of service during the coronavirus restrictions but we'll be even more pleased to be back as a real pub again sometime in 2021!

January 2021 - Tier 3 = Lockdown 3

Here we go again (again)... we are having to close and switch back to takeaways and deliveries only from 31 December as Shropshire has been placed in Tier 3.

We will not be defeated (I've said this before!). We've improved our takeaway menu and added some great new dishes including the legendary Double Dragon burger and lasagne.

We're open for takeaway food & drink from Wednesday to Saturday, 5pm to 8pm, and also on Sundays for our awesome Sunday lunch from noon until 2pm.

Christmas 2020 - Opening Times

It's a Tier 2 Christmas in Wenlock, so here are our opening times. Please take a look and see you soon!

Christmas Eve: open from 4pm

Christmas Day: closed

Boxing Day: open from 12-7pm (limited menu)

Sunday 27th: closed

Monday 28th: open from 5pm (limited menu)

Tuesday 29th: open from 5pm (limited menu)

Wednesday 30th: open from 5pm

New Year's Eve: open from 5pm

New Year's Day: open from 12-7pm (limited menu)

Saturday 2nd onwards, normal opening times

Just as a reminder, in Tier 2 we can't offer drinks without food and we can't allow household mixing in the pub.

Last orders are strictly 10pm with doors closed by 11pm. Before you ask, yes, this even applies to Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve!

It's going to be a different Christmas at the G&D for sure but let's make the best of it. See you all soon.

November 2020 - Lockdown 2

Here we go again... we are having to switch back to takeaways and deliveries only from 5 November to 2 December under the restrictions imposed under the second national lockdown.

We will not be defeated! We've improved our takeaway menu and added some great new dishes including a new BBQ Bacon Burger and a Florentina pizza.

We're open for takeaway food & drink from Wednesday to Saturday, 5pm to 8pm, and also on Sundays for our awesome Sunday lunch from noon until 2pm.

October 2020 - the New New New Normal

All change (again)! The new Coronavirus rules are now in place, so just a couple of things to be aware of when you come in for a drink or meal.

1 please use the new NHS Covid-19 app and scan on the way in (the QR code is on the door and wall). If your phone isn't up to the job, no problem, just give your details to the bar staff who'll write them down instead!

2 we've got to close the doors at 10pm each night else risk a fine, so drink up in good time please!

3 we're all supposed to wear a mask when walking around the pub (it is nearly Halloween, I suppose)

Do keep coming in. We've been open through thick and thin and this feels very thin... so please keep coming, keep supporting us, and keep enjoying the G&D. The pub has been trading for 300 years and we want another 300 more!

September 2020 - Eat Out to Help Out was a blast!

Chancellor Rishi Sunak's idea to get people out and about and supporting their local pubs and restaurants has certainly been a blast!

It's not been easy to swap our busy nights from Thu - Sat to Mon - Wed but we got there in the end thanks to some help from friends and family. Most importantly, customers really seemed to appreciate the deals they got.

Don't forget to keep supporting us and the other pubs, restaurants and cafes in Much Wenlock in September and beyond. For as long as we're stuck with the social distancing rules we need our lovely customers to keep popping in all through the week.

July 2020 - We're reopening!

After 100 days of running the pub as a takeaway (most definitely "not normal"), we're now re-opening under the "new normal" rules! We'll be open from noon on Saturday 4 July.

We're really looking forward to welcoming you back. We've made changes which will keep our lovely customers & staff both safe & reassured whilst keeping things as familiar as possible. The picture is of our lovely new outdoor area by the way (credit to Richard & family for making it look so lovely!).

You can't drink standing at a bar for now, so you'll need to be seated. This means you can now book a table for drinking as well as eating. Ring 727009 to reserve your table. If you're passing, please check with the bar staff before coming in if you've not pre-booked.

We're running a reduced menu for now until we get back up to speed. We do hope you understand.

Our takeaway food will continue as it's proving to be really popular, including the G&D famous Sunday lunch. Phone 727009 or use Just Eat to place takeaway orders for collection or delivery.

We'll be open from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. In the week, we'll be opening from 5pm each day. Do bear with us as we get back up to speed as we're learning how to work in the "new normal" along with everyone else.

May 2020 - Coronavirus update

We've been running the community delivery and takeaway service now for nearly two months. We're serving hundreds of meals each week together with takeaway real ale, too. Some Sundays we provide more than 100 hot Sunday lunches with all the trimmings!

We're a family business and we need a break to recharge our batteries. We're taking the week off from 26 May, so re-opening again on Tuesday 2 June.

From all we see in the news we think we might be able to reopen "properly", in some form or other, from July. Let's hope so and do watch this space!

April 2020 - Community Takeaway & Delivery Service

We are now fully operational as a community takeaway and delivery service for the town.

We are serving hot food from a special menu plus real ale and other beer & cider.

Customers can bring in their own jugs or bottles or use our own 1-pint, 2-pint and 4-pint takeout boxes.

Opening times are Tuesday to Saturday evenings 5pm-8pm and Sunday lunch noon-2pm.

Sunday lunches need to be pre-booked by Friday night please.

Safety notice: we are asking all customers to respect social distancing when coming into the pub. Staff have also received specific hygiene training and PPE (personal protective equipment) in addition to the normal training and procedures we undertake as part of our 5* food hygiene rating.

March 2020 - Coronavirus Update

To help the town, we are offering a takeaway food and drink service to customers following the Government instruction to close the pub for normal business.

It will take a little while to get up to full speed so please keep an eye on Facebook for the most up-to-date menu and opening hours.

We are thinking of everyone affected by the crisis in any way.

January 2020 - Bonker Burns Night!

After all of the Christmas parties and a fantastic New Year's Eve with Stevie J Kramer, we didn't think things could get any better.

But then Burns Night happened and we had Robin playing the bagpipes (sort of!) and a breath-taking address to the Haggis from Andy and our other guests!
